mandatory gear

It is MANDATORY that all runners, in each event, have the following items with them at all times:

  • bottles/flasks/reservoirs that can hold up to 1L of fluids
  • a waterproof jacket = seam-sealed/taped/welded jacket/full on rubber. You need to know what this means.
  • a basic 1st Aid kit that includes: 2 metres of duct tape/medical tape, a tensor bandage, band-aids, emergency blanket)
  • a charged cell phone (with the RD’s phone number)
  • whistle
  • toque or buff
  • course map (on your phone or printed)
  • lighter/matches
  • knife (think ‘pocket knife’)

**DQ will result if you don’t have any of the above items when checked on course.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:

  • Garmin InReach or similar device
  • headlamp and extra batteries
  • warm layer for upper body
  • rain pants
  • Benadryl or similar. Every year runners have found a hornet’s nest on course!
  • calories of some sort
  • sunscreen
  • bug repellent
  • compass
  • trekking poles
  • water filter
  • Glitter! Why? It gives you super powers!

OFFICIALLY PROHIBITED:

  • earbuds, bone conduction thingies, etc, etc.
  • music/podcasts/etc being played on a speakerphone is also not allowed
  • dogs and/or other pets on the course

Pacers…

Only the 160km runners will have a pacer option. Your pacer can only start at KM 109, which is the Cape Mabou Trailhead (cow pasture) on Cape Mabou Road.

Note: “muling” is prohibited. This means that your pacer cannot carry any gear for you and you can not borrow any gear from your pacer.

aid station fare

Liquids: Water, Coke, Ginger Ale, and Tailwind (orange).

Solids: candy, chips, bananas, cookies, pickles and watermelon.

We’ll most likely have other oddball items thrown into the mix as well.

From 9pm to 6am, we will have some warm food through the night (broth & grilled cheese sandwiches).

Crewing Rule #1: If it doesn’t say “crew accessible”, your crew is not allowed.

Crewing Rule #2: “Receiving aid” anywhere outside the designated areas from your crew (or another crew) will result in a DQ.

the fine print

**If you were on the start list for 2025 and deferred your entry to 2026, you’re eligible for a 50% refund up to June 10th, 2026.

For everyone else, if you registered but cannot attend, contact us by January 1st, 2026 for a 75% refund and between January 2nd and June 10th, 2026 for a 50% refund.

No refunds after June 10th, 2026.

In the event of cancellation of the event for reasons including, but not limited to, weather, forest fires, acts of nature, war, strikes or other circumstances, Nova Scotia Trail Running will provide the following 3 options:

  1. Automatic deferral to the following year.
  2. A partial refund of your entry fee, calculated by Nova Scotia Trail Running, accounting for factors such as incurred event expenses.
  3. You can sell your spot.

Are you registered to run but can’t because of injury/illness/training issues/life in general? If you can volunteer on race weekend 2026 for 8 hours, we will defer your entry to the following year!

Since the 2025 Capes 100 was cancelled, we are allowing registrants to sell their spot for 2026 up to August 15th, 2025.

Transfers/selling your spot are not allowed after August 15th, 2025.

After August 15th, we’re back to the normal refund policy and no transfer policy.

Note 1: if you register for the 100 miler or 87k and want to drop down to a shorter distance, you will not get the difference in the registration fee back. Sorry.

Note 2: if you register for the 46k and want to ‘bump up’ to a longer distance, it can be done up to August 6th, 2026 (just send an e-transfer for the difference).

Note 3: Swag and prizing is only for the runners on the start list and the volunteers. We won’t be mailing or delivering any swag or drop bags. If there’s any leftovers, they will go to the volunteers and/or community members.

Easy peasy? 🙂
